Temporary Residence for the Purpose of Family Reunion

If you have decided to live in Slovakia with your family, the Act on the Residence of Foreigners allows you to submit family reunion documents when submitting your first application for temporary residence permit. Your spouse, children under 18, or even your parents over 65 can get this type of permit. However, it is important that the main person (the guarantor) responsible for the residence permit is granted temporary residence permit for another purpose of business (e.g. sole proprietorship, company, etc.) or employment. In fact, it is possible to apply for family reunion at any time during your temporary stay.

 

This residence permit may be granted for the period of validity of residence of the person whose family member the applicant is, for maximum period of 5 years.

 

 

Temporary residence for the purpose of family reunion may be granted to an applicant who is:

  • Family member of a person with temporary or permanent residence in Slovakia;
  • Relative in direct ascending line of an asylum holder younger than 18 years of age;
  • Dependent person according to an international treaty.

Only the following persons are considered family members:

  • Spouse, if the spouses have reached 18 years of age;
  • Single child younger than 18 years of age of a person with granted residence;
  • Dependent single child older than 18 years of age of a person with granted residence, unable to care of himself/herself due to a long-term unfavorable health condition;
  • Parent of a person with granted residence or of his/her spouse who is dependent on hus/her care and lacks appropriate family support in the country of origin.

 

A person with a temporary residence for the purpose of family reunion is entitled to:

  • Do business
  • Work with a valid work permit in the period of up to 12 months from being granted temporary residence;
  • Work without further permits after the period of 12 months from being granted temporary residence;
  • Study.

What does the client need when applying for temporary residence permit?

 

  1. Valid passport;
  2. Two colour photographs 3,0 x 3,5 cm;
  3. Registry document (birth certificate, affdavit, confirmation from doctor);
  4. Constent of the second parent of a child younger than 18 years of age to whom the child has not been entrusted to personal care and who is entitled to meet with the child;
  5. Criminal record statement with apostille from the country of the foreign national´s citizenship and the countries where s/he resided for more than 90 days during 6 consecutive months in the last 3 years;
  6. Document on accommodation in Slovakia for a minimum period of 6 months;
  7. Document of financial coverage of residence in the amount of 12-times the statutory life minimum (min. 3300€) – adult; (min. 1650€) -child under 18y.
  8. Fee for submitting the application (family reunion): 132,50 €;
  9. Fee for issuing the card for temporary residence permit: 24,50 € (up to 2 days) / 4,50 € (up to 30 days).
